Give us this day our daily bread….” – Matthew 6:11
There is nothing more amazing than to come to the realization of how living and breathing the Word of God is and how with every step of the heart that leads us closer to His, passages come alive in different ways. Why would it be different? Every new day that we get to experience is full of exciting new adventures, new places to go and the opportunity that we hold in our hands to change: to be different, to become a new creation.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come”- 2 Corinthians 5: 17.
This past week, I was captivated by my students as we prayed before classes. Jesus tells us that “the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.” -Matthew 19:14. As I watched them get low in humble reverence, quite a few things flashed through my mind….complex situations, circumstances, challenges, tests, difficulties, praises, blessings, and gratitude….and then I looked again at these beautiful little ones holding the key to the heart of God. As they prayed, they kept their prayers simple and with perfect sincere trust in their Loving Heavenly Father that He would meet each need presented from hearts that long to love Him, and I learned the beauty of simplicity, honesty, and trust in another way.
This past New Year, I made a resolution of my own: to learn to trust in God’s Divine Provision that would challenge me to align my walk with God to my talk about Him, His wonders, His blessings, His love. Little did I know how much this resolution would change me. I have already seen God provide for my every need in the most creative, powerful and amazing ways. I have been the recipient of answered prayers beyond my wildest dreams and I am excited to share more of this journey through the blog as the year progresses. But everything started here…on my knees…in prayer. At the time, I truly wished that it had been eloquent and profound, but I remember it being pretty simple, “Almighty God, please help me to to have more trust and faith in You, in Jesus name, Amen.”
I don’t know if I was believing that mountains would move, and that money would fall from the sky as we all do, but I was unprepared for what God is beginning to teach me through this valuable exercise and how much FUN this journey is. Prayer does reach the ears of our Loving Heavenly Father, but more importantly, going to God in prayer for everything, is changing ME more! In staying in closer communication with Him and getting excited about more communication still, I am coming to understand the ‘Now’ life of living each day as it is assigned to us. To be honest, not one day has gone completely as I have planned. I am frankly amazed at how much gets done in each 24 hour window of time as I surrender my requests to God and wait to see not just WHAT His provision is, but HOW He chooses to provide. Divine Provision has come in ways that have ranged from jaw droppingly awe-inspiring, to humorously embarrassingly funny to tear-jerkingly profound, and I am grateful. Almighty God is so personal and loving, and every minute that we run to Him is an opportunity to bask in His guidance, to look for where He is leading us to go and what to do and to participate in the most fun experiences ever, and I am so very grateful for this life that I get to live to honor and glorify Him by trusting in His Provision.
This week, I was led back to the Lord’s Prayer, but in a different way. As I came to the verse ” Give us today our daily bread”, I was moved to understand something new. God’s Provision is for today. There is no need to worry about tomorrow, next week or next year, when our needs are met faithfully by a Loving God. May you continue to grow in your faith and trust and learn even more about how God provides for His children when we seek Him for EVERYTHING, and may you be blessed abundantly with life-giving joy, peace and love as you live TODAY…your daily bread.
